The Fallow Report: New Year, New You?

Each year, 45 percent of Americans make at least one New Year’s resolution. AARP Bulletin Today special correspondent Allan Fallow talks to people about their New Year’s resolutions for 2009.

To increase the odds of keeping this year’s resolutions, consider these tips:

Be specific. Rather than saying I am going to get in shape or exercise more, resolve to run or walk a 5K road race.

Set a goal that motivates or inspires you personally, rather than something you think you ought to do.

Plan how and when you’ll celebrate once you’ve achieved your resolution. Visualizing your success will go a long way toward making it happen, and there’s no need to wait until Dec. 31, 2009, to declare your resolution a success.
