If you’re shopping for a hearing aid, do what most people don’t—haggle for a better price.

With an average retail markup of 117 percent, “there’s room to bargain,” says Consumer Reports senior editor Tobie Stanger.

Only about 15 percent of shoppers ever ask for a discount, according to a Consumer Reports survey. Yet among those who ask, close to half get a better price.
