Don't give up on oral health just because you've lostor never haddental insurance.
- Contact your state dental association to learn about resources in your community. Some dental schools, for example, offer low-cost checkups and cleanings.
- Don't skip routine dental care, even if you have to pay for it yourself.
- Brush your teeth at least twice a day using a fluoride toothpaste. And floss daily, an easy way to help maintain good oral health.
- Don't smoke.
- Watch your diet. Go easy on sweets that can cause tooth decay. Look for sugar-free gum and food products.
If you have a family member in a nursing home, talk with the administrator to make sure your relative is getting daily oral health care and regular checkups from a dentist.
