July-August 2009

Get involved — AARP Wisconsin needs volunteers to support its legislative priorities—health care reform, enhanced financial security, support for prescription drug costs and other issues important to residents age 50 and older in all eight congressional districts.

Volunteer advocates will be trained to educate and mobilize their communities and work with elected officials on both state and national issues. "We want to get folks actively involved in this historic moment in health reform," says Al Majkrzak, AARP Wisconsin state president.

Safe behind the wheel — At CarFit events across the state, drivers can get help adjusting their mirrors, seats, steering wheels, seat belts and head restraints for optimal driving safety. A team of trained volunteers walks each driver through a 12-point checklist that takes about 20 minutes to complete. Drivers have an opportunity to ask questions and learn how to make their vehicles fit them ergonomically to help ensure they drive safely.

AARP Wisconsin and other groups have scheduled CarFit events. The checkups are free, but reservations are required. Call toll-free at 1-866-448-3611, ext. 6300, or go to www.car-fit.org to sign up.
