Nov. 9, 2009 (McClatchy-Tribune Regional News delivered by Newstex) -- Today the Aiken Standard resumes its new feature, "10 in 10."
Each month the newspaper is highlighting 10 area teenagers -- high school seniors and juniors -- that their schools foresee as becoming highly successful in the next decade.
This group includes a future engineer, a businessman, a psychologist, a farm owner and a future chef who has overcome a family tragedy to remain in school and excel.
Selected students in the coming months are liked to include those achieving academically and/or athletically and those who are contributing in special ways to their schools or communities. Pedro Lopez de Victoria

As the 'man of the house,' he struggled to hold his family together while his mother was dying of cancer. Selflessly, he thought of his family first, taking care of his younger sister, performing daily household chores and caring for his terminally ill mother. Andrew would miss school in order to drive his mother to chemotherapy treatment, giving her the support that she desperately needed. The average student would have quit school to lessen his personal burdens. Since her death, Andrew's poetry now reflects his inner feelings of his lose for the mother that he loved so dearly. Through his faith and his mother's wish for him to graduate, he stuck it to and is currently enjoying his senior year. He misses his mom, but he continues to strive to be successful."
