DURHAM ART WALK, Apr. 4, 2008 (McClatchy-Tribune Regional News delivered by Newstex) --
a self-guided tour of galleries, artists studios, and exhibits -- will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. in downtown Durham. The event is free and open to the public and will be held rain or shine.
Durham Art Walk starts at the Durham Arts Council at 120 Morris St,, where the public can pick up maps, performance schedules and view artists' exhibits.
The event will offer for sale the works of more than 150 artists including paintings, prints, photography, jewelry, sculpture and fabric arts in businesses and galleries throughout downtown. The plazas and sidewalks of the new downtown streetscape will add to your enjoyment, and sites are within easy walking distance.
Durham Art Walk Rocks! features concerts on the CCB Plaza, West Village, Brightleaf Square and Alivia's Durham Bistro. Food, historic tours, and music round out the events.

1. Durham Arts Council, 120 Morris Street. Paintings by Nancy McCallum, hand-dyed and appliqed work by Lori Kerr, and exhibits by other artists.

3. 108 Morris St. Creations by Colorful People and People of Color featuring live entertainment Valerie Whitted.

5. The Paragraph Project and Trinity Design/Build, 209 Gregson St. (Corner of Gregson St. and Morgan St.). Mural Project: Come visit the future home to a new mural in downtown Durham. View all the mural submissions by students from Durham School of the Arts and see the winning design.
6. Alivia's Durham Bistro, 900 W. Main St. Oil and pastel paintings related to music and African American culture by Todd H. Bond.
7. Bull City Art Frame Company, 905 W. Main St., Suite 20F. Sculpture in metals by Jeff Hackney, and works by other artists.
