Jean Moon Bronson
Sept. 30, 1921 -- March 23, 2008
Jean Moon Bronson, 86, Tipton, went home to be with the Lord at 5:45 p.m. Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008. She was born Sept. 30, 1921, in Tipton to Ernie and Dorothy (Wilhelm) Moon. She graduated with honors from Tipton High School in 1939. On Dec. 30, 1939, she married William Bronson and he died Aug. 2, 1973.
She has two sisters, Evelyn (Moon) Planalp and husband Dale, Tipton, and Betty (Moon) Steele and husband Lloyd, Eaton Rapids, Mich.
She had three children, the late Larry Bronson, and wife the late Patty (Brown) Bronson, Sharon (Bronson) Foland and husband Greg Foland, Kokomo, and Karen (Bronson) Angell, Greenwood; six grandchildren, Bill Bronson and wife Cheryl, Tipton, Danielle (Foland) Heyer and husband Travis, Downers Grove, Ill., Susie (Bronson) Hussong and husband Andy, Elwood, Ron Angell and wife Lianne, Jacksonville, Fla., Gina Angell, Greenwood, and Brad Foland, Fishers; seven great-grandchildren, Blake Heyer, Korbin, Kurtis, Kaden and Kellen Hussong, Austin Angell and Brady Fernandez.
She is also survived by four nieces and nephews, Neil Planalp and wife Cheri, Tipton, Jayne (Planalp) Day and husband Bob, Tipton, Greg Steele and wife Kathy, Fishers, and Sandy (Steele) Porter, Eaton Rapids, Mich.
She worked at Tipton Building and Loan, Tipton County Treasurer's Office and was an accountant at Pioneer before retiring in 1976. She pursued her lifelong dream of being a teacher by going to IUK from 1974 to 1976; however, a heart attack kept her from completing her education. Instead, she volunteered at Tipton Community Schools as an assistant and substitute teacher from 1976 to 2004.
She was involved in several organizations, including a 60-year member of Trinity Wesleyan Church and Lincoln Elementary School PTA, where she served as its first president. She was recipient of the first Jean Bronson Volunteer Service Award from Mid Central Reading Council in 1999. She was a 50-year member of the Double Dozen Club, serving three years as county president. She was a member of the Fairview Cemetery Board from 1984 to 2005. She was a lifetime member of Pioneer Auto Club of Kokomo. She was a member of Tipton Historical Society and a volunteer at Tipton Hospital, where she had over 2,500 hours of service.
Jean's funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Wesleyan Church, 3021 W. Ind. 28, Tipton, where Pastors Doug Slack and Harvey Herring will lead the service. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Viewing will be 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Young Nichols Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Robert D. "Bob" Stroud
March 31, 1944 -- March 22, 2008
Robert D. "Bob" Stroud, 63, Logansport, passed away at 6 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008, at his home in Logansport. He was born March 31, 1944, in Newark, Ark., to Marshel H. and Virl (Powell) Stroud, who both preceded him in death. On May 28, 1965, in Galveston, he married Judith (Carver) Stroud and she survives.
Bob retired from Chrysler with almost 40 years service as an oiler. He was 1963 graduate of Galveston High School and a member of UAW 685.
Bob and Judy have been involved with Rebel Rousers Car Club for many years, hosting many car shows to raise money for the Shriners Childrens Hospital in Chicago and many other organizations in north central Indiana. Bob was also a member of the GTO Associaion of America. Bob also served as vice president of Rebel Rousers
He was survived by Judith Stroud, Logansport; sons, Jason and Chastity Stroud, Galveston, and Brian and Donna Stroud, Kokomo; grandchildren, Jayden Stroud and Taylor and Bryant Morris; sister, Virginia Tadlock, Galveston; and brother, Charles and Jan Stroud, Galveston.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services are 3 p.m. Wednesday at Murray Weaver Funeral Home Galveston Chapel, 401 S. California St., Galveston, with the Rev. Aaron Webb officiating. Burial will be in Galveston Cemetery, Galveston. Friends may call 1 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Larry Gene Shrock
Jan. 28, 1936 -- March 18, 2008
Larry Gene Shrock, 72, Jupiter, Fla., formerly of Kokomo, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2008, due to an accident. He was born Jan. 28, 1936, to Lloyd R. and Violet S. (Lesh) Shrock. He was a graduate of Clay Township High School.
Larry was a longtime grain farmer where he also raised and showed livestock. He was one of the original owners of the Handy Andy convenient stores. Larry was also the previous owner of the Big Dipper Ice Cream store and Rockin' S. Corral. When he moved to Florida, he became a general contractor.
His hobbies included NASCAR, in which he was an avid Jeff Gordon fan. Larry loved watching Indiana University and was an avid follower of Bobby Knight and the Tennessee Lady Vols basketball games along with the Indianapolis Colts.
Larry is survived by daughters, Tammy (Shrock) Howell and husband Brad, Greentown, Lisa (Shrock) Jarrett and husband Tony, Kokomo, and Andrea Nikel, Fredericksburg, Va. He is also survived by six grandchildren Zach, Baxter, Blake and Brice Howell, Greentown, and Brandi and Logan Jarrett, Kokomo; as well as special friends, Helen Wrathall and Doug and Linda Crouch.
A memorial service in celebration of Larry's life is 10 a.m. Thursday at Hasler-Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, with the Rev. Roy King officiating. Friends and family may call 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date in Galveston Cemetery, Galveston.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Howard County 4-H Exhibit Association and/or Kokomo Humane Society with envelopes available at the funeral home.

Tony Lazaro
Jan. 28, 1921 -- March 23, 2008
Tony Lazaro, 87, Kokomo, died 2:45 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2008, in Waterford Place Health Campus, Kokomo. He was born Jan. 28, 1921, in Kokomo, the son of the late Joseph and Josephine (Danna) Lazaro. On May 7, 1941, he married Elizabeth Hulet. She preceded him in death on July 5, 1992.
He was employed with Cuneo Press as a pressman for 301/2 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Eagles and Moose Lodge. He loved yard work and his dog Lucy.
He is survived by his two daughters, Veronica (Mrs. Donald) Hilligoss, Dexter, Mich., and Marjorie (Mrs. Tom) Hayes, Kokomo; one sister, Rosemary Bugher, Kokomo; five grandchildren, Jeffrey (wife Marty) Bailey, Indianapolis, Bret Bailey, Kokomo, Neil (wife Tricia) Bailey, Monticello, Stefani (Mrs. Bruce) Patton, Dexter, Mich., and Samantha (Mrs. Dan) Banda, Ann Arbor, Mich.; four great-grandchildren, Nick Bailey, Kokomo, Douglas Bailey and Kara Bailey, both of Monticello, and Sierra Patton, Dexter, Mich.; and one special nephew, Bob Bugher, Russiaville. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Dominic and Thomas Lazaro; a granddaughter, Michelle Brubaker; and a special friend, Katherine Shepherd.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Thursday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may call 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary, or one hour prior to services Thursday at the mortuary.

Ervin R. Maners
Aug. 4, 1925 -- March 19, 2008
Ervin R. Maners, 82 years of age, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008, in Fort Myers, Fla.
Born Aug. 4, 1925, and raised in Terre Haute. Mr. Maners served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, mainly in the South Pacific. After the war, he worked at the Owens Glass Co. and the Terre Haute Brewing Company. He was employed as a millwright with Chrysler Corporation and retired after 25 years from the plant in Kokomo. Ervin was a proud member and shop steward of UAW Local 685 in Kokomo and was a member of the Retired UAW Local in Fort Myers, Fla.
He is survived by his wife Belinda Joyce Maners; his son, Ervin R. Maners II and daughter-in-law, Cindy; his daughter, Suzan M. Rudd and son-in-law, Robert, all of whom reside in Fort Myers, Fla.; two sisters, Nola Rhodes and Nina Stewart, who reside in Terre Haute. As well, he leaves behind six grandchildren, Jessica Rudd, Angie (Maners) Dotts, Robert Rudd III, Ervin Maners III, Justin Rudd and Carolyn (Maners) Elvington; 10 great-grandchildren, stepchildren, stepgrandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie (Brown) and Fred Maners; 10 brothers and sisters; and two sons.
Services and internment will be announced at a later date.
Fern L. Gardineer
May 1, 1916 -- March 19, 2008
Fern L. Gardineer, 91, died 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at her winter residence in Cape Canaveral, Fla. She was born in Jonesboro, the daughter of Frank and Hazel (Bowen) Sapp. She was married to Donald A. Gardineer, who preceded her in death.
She lived in Kokomo for 26 years and graduated from Kokomo High School in 1934. She later moved to Aurora, Colo., where she and her husband owned and operated Gardineer Drywall Company for 26 years. She was a member of the Dawn Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Aurora, Colo. She was a devoted wife and mother.
She is survived by one son, Donald Floyd Gardineer and wife, Charlene, Grand Junction, Colo.; two daughters, Penny Gardineer, Cape Canaveral, Fla., and Melody Gardineer, Aurora, Colo.; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; sister, Rosemary Hamilton and husband Herbert, Kokomo; first cousin, Mildred Reynolds, Kokomo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving is lifelong friend, Betty Lobeck, Kokomo.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by sisters, Delores Fegley, Norma Mulligan and Margaret Sapp; and brother, Leonard Sapp.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to hospice or a favorite charity.
Peggy A. (Mitchener) Hanes
Peggy A. (Mitchener) Hanes, 60, Fairmount, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at her residence in Fairmount.
Peggy was employed by Ivy Tech Community College, Kokomo, as director of student success, development and retention. She was a member of Grant United Methodist Church, Fairmount, where she served on the board of trustees and was a very active member. She was involved in children's ministry and organizing Christmas in the Country. She was a perfectionist and prize winning cookie baker, winning many state awards. She was a volunteer at the Marion VA Hospital and had the gift of helping.
She was the daughter of the late Donald "Peck" Mitchener and Charline (Craw) Mitchener, her mother survives at Fairmount. She was a 1965 graduate of Fairmount High School, and received her bachelor of science degree in liberal arts from IU Kokomo and master's degree in adult education from Ball State University.
She is also survived by her husband, Carl Hanes, whom she married July l4, 1970; two sisters, Carolyn (Mark) Kratzer, Spencerville, and Sarah (Stephen) Duecker, Muncie; three brothers, Martin (Harmony) Mitchener, Marion, Richard (Pamm) Mitchener, Coatesville, and Timothy Mitchener, Fairmount.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, with Dr. Constance Cherry officiating. Interment will be at Park Cemetery in Fairmount. Arrangements are being handled by Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

Ed Stutzman
Ed Stutzman, 70, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2008, at his home.
He was formerly of Kokomo, and served his country for eight years in the U.S. Air Force and retired from the Army Reserve. He retired from Chrysler Die Cast in Kokomo after 40 years as an inspector and was an active golfer and bowler.
He is survived by wife, Sondra Stutzman; sons, Michael Anthony Stutzman and Edgar George Stutzman II; daughters, Marsha Rene Lee and Becky Olsen; brothers, Charles Stutzman and Douglas Stutzman; sister, Barbara Jean Aikey; half sister, Wanda Jose; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and his faithful dog, Abby.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Thursday at Garr Funeral Home, 7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, with interment to follow at Miller Cemetery in Borden. Visitation is 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
