Hulbert leads Hounds at district swim meet

Emily Vyhnanek will go to state in the 500 and the 200 medley while the 400 relay team of Hulbert, Vyhnanek, Willa Middaugh and Sydni Meyer will fight for a state title.

"The 100 breaststroke at the district championships was an amazing race," Pullman coach Kim Johnson said. "The swim lead went back and forth with Abby and Kaitlin Kelsch of East Valley. Abby touched-out Kaitlin in the last stroke and won by three tenth of a second."

Cross Country Moscow girls place sixth

WORLEY -- It was an off-day for Moscow's No. 1 runner Emily Paradis as she took ninth at the country state championship and led her team a sixth place finish.

Paradis was clocked in 20:02.45, almost a minute off the time she posted in winning the district 4A title the previous week at Circling Raven.

The Moscow boys also struggled, finishing 12th in the 13-team meet.

Bears win swim team titles MOSCOW -- The Moscow boys and girls swim teams claimed the District I-II titles together for the first time.

Junior Erica Anderson led the girls with wins in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke. She also teamed with her sister Heidi and freshmen Jacki Himmleberger and Hailey Johnson to set a district record in the 400 freestyle relay (3:45.12).

Chris Campbell (50 free, 100 free), Derek Frenzel (100 butterfly), Kirby Johnson (200 IM, 500 free) and freshman Tanner Anderson (100 breaststroke) claim district titles for the Moscow boys.

Moscow opens state competition this Friday at Boise. GIRLS

VOLLEYBALL Colfax smacks NW Christian COLBERT, Wash. -- Kayla Johnson racked up 23 kills to pace Colfax to a 25-11, 25-11, 26-24 win over Northwest Christian in a seeding match for the 2B District 7 tournament.

The Bulldogs (26-5), who have won five consecutive state titles, will dive into district play on Thursday at St. George's in Spokane.

Colfax took advantage of Northwest Christian's serving trouble in this contest. The Bulldogs were able to get all of their players on the floor, coach Sue Doering noted.

Rachel Johnson tallied 13 assists while serving 19-for-20 with three aces. Christa Nyholm added nine digs while Amelie Bruya notched 10 assists and three aces.

Kayla and Rachel Johnson and Christa Nyholm were named to the all-league team.

The Bulldogs moved to 26-5 and will play on Thursday at 5 p.m. in St. George's in the District 7 tournament. The top three finishers at the district tourney advance to state.
