Jun. 3, 2008 (McClatchy-Tribune Regional News delivered by Newstex) -- Children, parents and grandparents will have an opportunity once again to test their fishing skills while spending time together at the sixth annual Father Knows Best fishing tournament scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon June 14, with registration starting at 7:30 a.m., June 14, at the Graham Dairy Lake located at the intersection of Oak Lane and Montrose Road (Northwest 82nd Avenue).
The popular "catch and release" competition is being hosted by the town of Miami Lakes Cultural Affairs Committee.
Prizes will be awarded for the first fish caught, the biggest fish caught, the smallest fish caught, the most fish caught, the best fishing team of father and child, the youngest fisherman and the best overall fisherman.
This year, the committee is adding a new award, the oldest fisherman, to give grandparents and senior citizens an incentive to participate.
The town of Miami Lakes Elderly Affairs Committee will promote the new award by giving help to grandparents who need fishing gear or other assistance.
All participants will get a fishing log and a certificate and will be able to enter the traditional "fishing tourney raffle."
Admission to the tournament is free but preregistration is required and contestants must bring their own fishing rod and bait.
Fishing will be allowed from the lake's shore only and all participants aged 16 to 64 must bring a valid freshwater fishing license.
The deadline to register is June 12.
