	<description><![CDATA[Controversy in the death of a 25-year-old man has pitted a family active in the metro Atlanta church community against one of the area's major medical facilities over a procedure generally regarded to pose little threat. Family members have hurled accusations of medical negligence after Brandon Harris of Stone Mountain died in late January during a sleep study at Emory Healthcare. Renee "Sunshine" Lewis, Harris' mother, said staff did not properly watch over her son, and he repeatedly gestured for help that did not come.]]></description>

	<description><![CDATA[Local conservationists and wetlands supporters are invited to enjoy an evening of food, fellowship and friends at the Florence chapter of Ducks Unlimited's annual oyster roast and auction Friday. The Florence chapter holds the oyster roast each year to raise money for state and national efforts to preserve the wetlands of the eastern flyway, Florence DU committee chairman Jimmy Kremidas said. "I got involved with Ducks Unlimited when I started hunting," Kremidas said.]]></description>

	<description><![CDATA[Brunswick County's NAACP branch has asked officials for information about members of boards who do business with the county. The request, filed last week, stemmed from questions about Brunswick County Board of Health members who hold contracts with the county's health department, said Bernest Hewett, president of the NAACP branch. He said residents, both black and white, have voiced concerns to him about health board members' ties, including whether it is appropriate for board members to work for the health department.]]></description>

	<description><![CDATA[SCHENECTADY -- The city is protesting a state law that forces it to make the school district whole on unpaid taxes by requesting the state Legislature make an exception for the city. The City Council has approved a resolution that requests special legislation exempting Schenectady from reimbursing the Schenectady City School District for uncollected taxes. State Real Property Tax law requires cities with fewer than 125,000 residents pay the school district two years after property taxes go into arrears.]]></description>

	<description><![CDATA[The second wife of a former suburban Chicago police sergeant testified at a pretrial hearing Tuesday that he had threatened to kill her and said he could make it look like an accident Victoria Connolly said her ex-husband, Drew Peterson, pulled a gun on her three or four times when they were married, once putting it to her head and telling her he would kill her then kill himself. Peterson has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the 2004 death of his third wife, Kathleen Savio. Prosecution called 68 witnesses at the pretrial hearing to determine what hearsay evidence will be allowed at Peterson's upcoming murder trial.]]></description>

	<description><![CDATA[WICHITA -- Business owners in a special taxing district surrounding the Old Town Warren Theatre have fought to have their property taxes reduced, forcing the city to cover debts incurred when the city bought land, installed utilities and built a park to spur the development. Increased property taxes from new development were expected to pay off those debts. Council members who heard the news in a quarterly financial report this morning were upset and thought the city might have a guarantee from developers to ensure the debt is paid off.]]></description>
