Should the federal government raise taxes to balance the budget?

The federal government should not raise taxes to balance the budget — the politicians should reduce unnecessary spending. It should reduce spending on foreign governments if needed and reduce funding for the UN (which seems to be a useless entity). They should stop giving themselves lavish raises that far outstrip the cost of living (Social Security recipients' COLAs don't get anywhere near their percentage increase. They should put themselves under Social Security (thus eliminating their 100% salary continuation once they are voted out of office), and eliminate "earmarks" that waste millions of taxpayer dollars.

Of course not! No.

Yes, for those whose income and wealth can most easiest bear the burden of those taxes.

Obviously reigning in spending would be the best solution. Aside from disdain shown by the once mighty fiscally responsible, fiscally conservative Republicans...I don't know what else there is to offer. Getting out of this ill-planned and morally-bankrupt war is another option. The current dog and pony show of an administration isn't too concerned about the future of this once great and mighty country!

If a democrat wins the White House it won't matter. They already have a plan to raise taxes and that's that. I suggest you worry more about national security because the threat is real and you can promote whatever agenda you like. The fact of the matter is we are in a battle to save our future and the future of this country. The next terrorist attack won't be the result of global warming or the deficit it will be the result of ignorance and denial. Wake up folks.

Raise taxes to those Americans that benefited most from the lowering of taxes.
