Age-appropriate?
Shame on AARP for posing an obviously senior man [at left] with an obviously much younger woman for the May “Good News About Cancer” photo Did you even try to find an appropriately senior woman to illustrate the article?

Editor’s Note: Many readers thought so, too, but he is 45, she’s 54.
Helpful plants
Concerning plants as air purifiers: You are correct; plants have certainly helped me in that capacity [“Hazards at Home”].However, I would argue that plants in the bedroom are not a good idea. They do filter the air and give off oxygen during the day. But the process is reversed at night, when they take in oxygen. An exception is the Christmas cactus, which gives off oxygen at night.

Where’s the ‘outrage’?
In “What an Outrage!” you report that Wal-Mart’s health plan allows it to recover medical expenses when an employee later receives damages from a lawsuit. It will interest readers to know that Medicare does the same thing. Is this also an outrage?

Clip points
I read with interest your article about providing coupons to help military personnel [In the News, “Clipping Away for Military Families”]. It would have been more useful if it had mentioned a website for people interested in helping out.For the past few years I have been clipping coupons for an organization called Overseas Coupon Program (www.ocpnet.org). Anyone can go to this site and select a base to contribute to. Complete details are provided.

Editor’s Note: Another way to contribute is through an American Legion Auxiliary unit in your area. About 1,500 units nationwide participate.
