At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the Allies sign an armistice with Germany, ending the “war to end all wars.”

1921: President Warren G. Harding and other officials speak at the funeral of an unknown soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. Later, soldiers are posted to guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier after visitors use it as a bench.
